WW II Veteran Who Served USS Missouri - 2015

May 10, 2015:

An outstanding Mother/Daughter Banquet chose as their central theme of honoring Mothers, to also include the awarding of a Quilt to one of their sons - their previous church minister, and a WW II Naval Veteran, RL Norris.

WW II Naval Veteran, RL Norris graciously accepts his Quilt Award
Mr. Norris shared amazing stories about being aboard the USS Missouri, including one about the signing of the Peace Treaty and General McArthur!  93 years young - this Navy Veteran is still sharp as a tack and even chose to share a few pertinent passages during his acceptance speech - which we ALL enjoyed so much...Thank YOU, Mr. Norris - it was an unforgettable experience for us all!

Mr. Norris and his son were gracious enough to pose w/yours truly...Thank YOU!
We cannot proceed further without mentioning what a fantastic job these ladies did with their Mother/Daughter Banquet presentation - one of the Best this farm girl has ever seen:

Beautiful Patriotic decorations - every detail was perfection!
And I'm told the refreshments were absolutely superb.  Since we were sooo busy taking the opportunity to chat with Mr. Norris and the many lovely guests, unfortunately, we somehow missed out on that part of this event...Next time...;-)

It was wonderful to get to talk with all these Mothers and others who so willingly shared some of the beautiful quilts they had created for area veterans.

Awarding RL Norris his Quilt Award

The Program Director, Angie, gave such an eloquent talk about the Mother of our country, Martha Washington, who stood 'behind' and supported one of our greatest Fathers, George Washington.  It was a wonderfully enlightening talk that shared several pieces of important historical trivia that I had actually never hear previously...Thank YOU, Angie!

This blog post would not be complete, without including two of my very special girls in my life who helped make this Mother/Daughter event even more special than it already was.  My youngest daughter, Jaclyn, and her daughter, my DGD, Jade:

Two of my favorite girls
These two are not only very dear to this Mother's/Grammy's heart, they were instrumental in helping our Quilt Award Ceremony proceed without a hitch - Thank YOU, ladies - I couldn't be more proud of you.

Honorable mention goes to Illiana Volunteer Member, Sue who nominated Mr. Norris for his Quilt Award - Thank YOU, Sue!

To ALL our Mothers everywhere - Happy Mother's Day!
