How To Care for a Quilt of Honor

"Circle of Honor" quilt

The Mission of Quilts of Honor®:  "To bestow a universal symbol and token of thanks, solace, and remembrance to those who serve in harm's way to protect and defend our lives and freedom".

The Quilts of Honor that we create in our Illiana area are Awarded to deserving Service Members and Combat Veterans to Honor their service and sacrifice to our country, and to wrap them in the Love from a caring nation.  We hope and pray their Quilt of Honor will bring each QOH recipient much comfort and joy.

After receiving such an award, many ask, "How do I properly care for my Quilt of Honor?  Can it be laundered?"  For the most part, you will be able to use your Quilt of Honor as you would most quilts that are constructed of cotton and/or cotton/poly fabrics and materials.  Occasionally, a Quilt of Honor may be constructed by one of our QOH volunteer creators which includes specialty fabrics and materials that may require special care, otherwise standard laundering of a Quilt of Honor is acceptable.

Please follow these laundry care instructions for a Quilt of Honor constructed of cotton or cotton/poly blend fabrics and materials for optimal life and enjoyment of your Quilt of Honor:
  • Wash on gentle cycle using laundry care products that are gentle to colors and fabrics, NO Bleach.  A color catcher type product is recommended for Quilts of Honor constructed of bright colors - such as reds and dark blues with whites
  • Use cool or cold wash and rinse cycles
  • Dry using moderate dryer heat, or you may hang your Quilt of Honor to dry out of direct sunlight
  • Clip any loose thread tails
While your Quilt of Honor is a lifetime Award, it is also meant to be used by you.  With proper care, your Quilt of Honor should last a lifetime...Please Enjoy!

*Please note:  these laundry care instructions are provided as a courtesy.  Since it would be virtually impossible to anticipate every fiber and material that may be used in each Quilt of Honor, nor the laundry care products or mechanical means utilized to clean a Quilt of Honor, we cannot be held responsible, legally or otherwise, for any laundry mishap one may or may not experience.  It would be advisable, if questions arise, to consult a laundry care professional with any questions or concerns one may have regarding the proper care and maintenance of any quilt, including and especially a Quilt of HonorThank YOU!
