A Look Back

We are so Thankful for our Veterans...and our dedicated Volunteers who help us Honor them with beautiful Quilts of Honor.

One such very special Illiana Quilt of Honor Volunteer is 'Our Doris':

"Our Doris" aka our Strip Quilting Diva!

Doris came to us over five (5) years ago in 2014, following a request/Call To Action in our local newspaper for Volunteers to help our newly formed group create and award patriotic quilts for our area's Service Members and Veterans.  Doris came in the beginning to just, "Check us out" ;-)  She wanted to make sure that we and she were a good fit!

Doris hadn't previously sewn quilts rather, she had sewn just about EVERYTHING else!  After we introduced Doris to one of our 1/4" patchwork foot that fit her machine, she was off to the races!

Doris's very first patriotic quilt top:

...and this is Doris's 100th patriotic quilt top:

We give Doris and ALL our Illiana Volunteers free-will to design and create the Quilts Of Honor quilt tops she and they sew, as long as they meet our QOH quilt requirements.  Doris didn't think her 100th quilt top was 'anything special' but we whole-heartedly disagree!  It's Special because 'she' created it - it's an 'original Doris', and we LOVE it!

Typically, Doris will create the 'interior', and we will border each one out to QOH size = 65" x 75" is the standard we generally abide by.

We will then quilt/bind and label prior to each one being awarded.  It's a TEAM effort that requires EVERYONE to create just one (1) Quilt of Honor.  We are so Thankful for each and every one, and especially 'Our Doris'!

Just a few of the quilts that have been created/awarded by Doris:

Thank YOU Doris, and anyone who even looks like you ;-), along  w/ALL our wonderful and dedicated Illiana Quilts of Honor Volunteers.  Because of YOU - Veterans and Service Members by the hundreds are honored each year for their Sacrifice and Service for our country through the beautiful Quilts you create...Blessings to each of You.
